Life's good in the Greater Bancroft Area!
We have known Kimberlee for a few years. She's been a friend and has a great eye for space, design and staging. Earlier this year, I had a knee replacement and we asked Kim if she could help organize our home so that my rehabilitation would go smoothly. She did an extraordinary job and I am so grateful. Kim and her husband Rick are the owners and operators of Dragonfly Landing B&B, a gorgeous local retreat that deserves your attention.
A few weeks ago, my daughter and I snuck out for an afternoon drive down Lower Faraday Road from Paudash to Coe Hill.
Earlier that week, I was in Coe Hill for a showing of this century home and I stumbled across The Barn Chefs. I had no idea this place even existed, but apparently they've been open since May of 2016! It's a humble wooden building with a giant barbecue on the deck and truly elite food inside. I grabbed a smattering of charcuterie and their macaroons and vowed to come back later in the week.
My family organized a photo shoot at Capture Your Light Portraits by Gail Burstyn for our half-year anniversary as Sharon White Real Estate Ltd., Brokerage and for my 62nd birthday!
It was a total surprise and it was really fun. Gail was a total professional - and she had some bubbly for us to sip on throughout the session! She sure does know how to relax a subject!
New mama Jaimie Jolly did our make-up. She was super efficient, despite the heat of the afternoon sun beaming down on her, working magic in a few minutes. Jaimie was a total treat to have around and does make up for all sorts of events around Bancroft. Check out my "before Jaimie" and "after Jaimie" pictures below, with a list of the Arbonne products she used.
And then they surprised me with a new shirt and jacket from Posies (I hope you know about their awesome 70% and 50% off racks).
I'm a one, you're a two and you're a three," I shared with two girlfriends as I doused every patch of my skin with SPF 70 sunscreen spray. The numbers refer to the Fitzpatrick skin scale, developed by Harvard dermatologist Thomas B. Fitzpatrick. The scale classifies how different people respond to ultraviolet light – specifically to one hour of sunlight on the first day of spring. So when my friends and I were in Las Vegas this weekend, the intense winter white I cultivated under scrubs and artificial lights all season was ready to burn....

The Sharon White Team sat down with Sherry Hayes earlier in August to talk about her life in our town. Sherry describes herself as someone who is trying to evolve but not take herself too seriously at the same time. She works in Not-for-Profits and strives for balance in all things. She loves Bancroft and North Hastings and says there is nowhere else she would rather be than right here, right now! She is currently enjoying a peaceful existence with her 21 year daughter on the York River.
A house is the most significant purchase you'll ever make in your life.
So you probably want to be able to stay there for quite some time. And you probably want to avoid going into a retirement home until absolutely necessary.
But how do you make sure that your house - and the community where your house is located - are prepared for ageing?
We sat down with Gail Burstyn of Lylis Designs last week in advance of the summer season to talk about her work and life. This eight minute video features the best parts of our chat and her stunning images.
The Team was covering ground on Hay Lake this week, and we asked some Hay Lake inhabitants to tell us why they adore the freshwater inland paradise.
When Carly O'Neill came back to Bancroft last June with her partner, Chef Shaun Zoernack, neither of them could have predicted that by September they would own and operate a restaurant on Paudash Lake. But this is exactly what happened.
My parents moved us to Inlet Bay on Paudash Lake when I was less than a year old. A youth spent on the lake has served me so well. When April rolled around and the final stubborn ice fishing huts were pulled off the water or sunk, my brother and I could start salivating over a rising summer. The crocus flowers would peek through the soil and mossy carpeting would spill over the rock garden, greening up our lives. In May, the air was dewy and moist and the days were long and built for fun. I do not advise trying to swim in Paudash Lake in early May. The Lake itself isn’t yet aware that summer has arrived, even though you’re wearing your shorts and it should really know better.
In our previous post, we talked about camping at Silent Lake Provincial Park, Bancroft’s hidden gem. If you’re nearby and are looking for day trip ideas this summer, why not stop by Silent Lake and enjoy some of the many activities offered there? Silent Lake Provincial Park has lots of fun outdoor activities for families to enjoy...
If you’re new to the area and wondering where to eat in Bancroft, you might want to check out The Craftsman Restaurant, located at 27965 Highway 28 South in Paudash. This family run restaurant has been in business since 1955. Current owners Jim and Ramona...
Buying local is good for everyone. It supports our local businesses, growers, artists and artisans. Buying local is also good for the environment because it reduces emissions from long distance transportation. And we all know that local food is fresher and tastier, so the consumers benefit too.
The Bancroft Farmers Market is a great place for buying local produce from
For a small town, Bancroft has a remarkably active arts and culture community. The area is a magnet for artists and crafts people. The beauty that surrounds us here must inspire them! Celebrate our artistic community and learn how to support some of them in this week’s post from The Sharon White Team.
Bancroft is known as the “mineral capital of Canada” for a reason. Around 1600 varieties of minerals have been found in the area. Although the veins of minerals are small, the quality is high. In fact, marble from the Bancroft area was used in the parliament buildings in Toronto and Ottawa...
Living in Bancroft has a lot of perks, and the breathtaking scenery and opportunities for fun, family friendly outdoor activities available at places like Silent Lake Provincial Park definitely top the list. School is out, summer is in, and families are making their vacation plans….
It’s really not surprising that each year more and more people come from far and wide to enjoy summer in Bancroft. It’s the perfect place to beat the heat – the lakes are cool, the air is clean, and there’s oodles to do – but my favourite season in Bancroft is the fall, and I’ll tell you why.
There is a place in Bancroft — a truly special place — that is adored by local residents and seasonal visitors alike. It has watched over the picturesque downtown, from its perch at 5 Hastings street, for almost 100 years, going through several incarnations...
One of the things that makes the Bancroft area such an incredible place to live is the sense of community. You see it everywhere, from the clubs, to the arts, to the school sports teams, to the businesses. One local businesses that stands out in terms of its close knit family-like community is the Craftsman Restaurant in Paudash. It makes sense, it’s run by a family, and has been for the last 27 years. But there’s more to it than that. Jim and Ramona have built the Craftsman around their values...
I am not a big fan of DIY real estate. There is a lot to know. And even for clients who like doing things themselves, most eventually realize that realtors add a lot. So I like to go with my clients to potential listings, to help them see what I see.
The Johnsons were referred to me to help them out by the good folks at the town planning office. Steve laughed when he told me that when he emailed another person about finding a good real estate agent. The name he received was the same as the one at the planning office.
Lucky for me the name was mine. Thanks guys!
We took a look at the vacant land on a Sunday, in the pouring rain. The property is where the Johnsons plan to spend their retirement years.
