Arts and culture in Bancroft: Ontario’s Most Talented Town

For a small town, Bancroft has a remarkably active arts and culture community. The area is a magnet for artists and crafts people. The beauty that surrounds us here must inspire them!  Celebrate our artistic community and learn how to support some of them in this week’s post from The Sharon White Team.

Bancroft was designated “Ontario’s Most Talented Town” in 2004 by TVOntario.  To win this contest, Bancroft beat out over 150 entries from all over the province.

1. The Art Gallery of Bancroft is the first stop on our virtual tour of Bancroft’s art scene.  It is operated by a team of awesome volunteers.  They host 12 monthly exhibitions each year which focus on local artists.  They also run workshops and classes to help you learn new artsy skills yourself. You can help support the gallery and our local artists by picking something up from the gift shop.  It’s a great opportunity to shop local and get great gift ideas!  You can also support them by volunteering or becoming a member.

2. Based in the historic Bancroft Village Playhouse, the Bancroft Theatre Guild has been bringing theatrical productions to the Bancroft community since the 1970s.  They have produced plays by some of the most well-known playwrights from around the world, as well as home-grown talent.  You can support the Bancroft Theatre Guild’s contribution to Bancroft’s arts and culture scene by becoming a Friend of the Bancroft Village Playhouse or by coming out to see any of the great performances they produce.

3. Music is also a big part of Bancroft’s arts environment.  For 10 weeks through the summer, Mineral Capital Concerts run on Wednesday evenings in Millenium Park.  These concerts are free, and all start at 7:00 p.m.  Area residents and businesses can support the series by sponsoring one of the weekly shows.  The Sharon White Team was so excited to sponsor the Rick Fines concert on July 2.

4. One last tidbit about the arts and culture surrounding us here in Bancroft.  On August 2 and 3, 2014, get over to Millenium Park for the Bancroft Art & Craft Guild’s Summer Show.  With free admission, over 50 artists and artisans, live music, and food, this show has all the ingredients for a great day!  It’s another great opportunity to shop local and support Bancroft’s arts community.  For more information, please call 613-338-5431.
